EOD Cellars: A Wine Review Fri, Dec 02, 22 This Veteran’s Day marks 101 years since the guns in Europe fell silent in the hopes that the “War to end all Wars” would be just that… 101 years later, that isn’t the case. There are still battles to be fought, and wars to be won. That is out of our hands. As civilians however, we do have a way of giving back, even if only on a small scale. For us as a company, helping means selling you wines of a worthy cause. Now, you may not know this, but The Wine Outlet is Veteran owned, and this year, we wanted to find a way to give back, if only just a little; so we at The Wine Outlet came together and found the wines of EOD Cellars. EOD Cellars is the work of 27 year Navy veteran, Leon Tackitt, who spent a large majority of that time in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, the disarming and disposal of bombs. Per their website: “EOD technicians are highly-trained military members serving in the Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force. When EOD technicians are wounded, they sustain some of the most severe and often life-changing injuries. Recovery and rehabilitation from these injuries can be extensive and has a significant emotional and financial impact on the injured EOD warrior and their families. For the families of fallen EOD warriors, surviving family members face many changes and challenges in their lives as they grieve the loss of a loved one. This is where the EOD Warrior Foundation steps in. The EODWF, benefitting all services, is supported by an indivisible network of EOD family and friends. This support enables wounded EOD warriors and their families and families of fallen EOD warriors to face the future with hope, knowing they are not alone, as they forge a new life and ensures the EOD heroes who make the ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.” (Tackitt Family Vineyards – EOD Cellars, n.d.) Tackitt Family Vineyards donates $1 for every bottle sold, and The Wine Outlet is going to match that. For every bottle of EOD Cellars wine that you buy from us, we will donate $1 to the EOD Warrior Foundation. What are the wines? We have two that we really enjoy, and we think you will too! We are keeping our everyday low prices on both of these wines so we can make them available to as many of our customers as possible. Check out each wine at your closest Wine Outlet to order. 2017 “Det Cord” White, Paso Robles, California This wine is 100% Gewürztraminer and you might not know this, but it is perfect for the Thanksgiving Day table! The aromatics are great with an abundance of tree fruit that is simply elegant. On the palate, there is plenty of acidity, with notes of bright pears, lychee, and a touch of apples that really brings a lot to this dry wine. This is a great food wine! Our Everyday Price: $21.99 2016 “Master Blaster” Red Wine, Paso Robles, California This is such a nice, easy drinking red with cranberries, vanilla, spicy notes and is just a simply good, pretty wine. Dare we say, this wine is “dangerously easy” to drink! This wine is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. Our Everyday Price: $26.99 These wines are delicious, and they support a worthy cause. Please join with us in support of Leon Tackitt’s winery and the EOD Warrior Foundation.
