Wine Rocker Charles Smith and K Vintners Event Recap

If anyone could craft a wine that has both tasting notes as well as musical ones, it’s Charles Smith. Not many winery-tasting events feature patrons sipping and analyzing single-vineyard Syrah while an up-and-coming alternative rock band shreds live guitar solos, but, then again, Charles Smith doesn’t run that many wineries. In fact, if you are in Walla Walla, Washington on March 26, this is exactly what is happening with the band Bodies on the Beach (We didn’t make that up). This energy, his approach to crisp artistically designed bottles, and his love of the concept of ‘vineyard to glass’ makes his biodynamic wines the pinnacle of edgy elegance in Washington State.

Charles Smith spent years abroad, traveling around in a van managing rock bands, all the while drinking wine and living a more rock n’ roll lifestyle. Eventually, after moving through Walla Walla, he was convinced to begin crafting wine with his charmingly eccentric style. This turned out to be a great decision because he was handed the award for winemaker of the year from Food and Wine Magazine only eight years after his first release and then again in 2014.

Clearly, Charles Smith is a one-of-a-kind winemaker, and we were so thrilled to share some of his best work with our Wine Outlet family, across all our stores. His line of ‘K Vintners’ wines represents his premium bottles that hold all of the artisanal features of world-class wine with the personality of a rocker. We hope his balanced and fresh ‘Ovide,’ his ageworthy ‘Milbrandt’ Syrah, and his robust yet tense ‘Powerline’ Syrah showed that with precise winemaking and some attitude, Washington wine kicks ass.
